About your Facilitator

Hello, my name is Rebecca Collins. I have been teaching in Douglas County for the past 12 years, first as a substitute teacher and then as a member of Eldorado’s Intervention Team.  Prior to coming to DCSD I taught in Jeffco for 12 years and enjoyed being a stay at home mom for 8. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education and Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and have a Master’s in Curriculum and Design from CU Denver.  I earned my Endorsement in Gifted and Talented Programming through UNC in May 2019 and thoroughly enjoy my role as Gifted and Talented Coordinator here at Eldorado.

My husband, Rich, and I have been happily married for 23 years (we were married in 2000, so it's easy to remember how many years we have been together).  We have two wonderful children with very distinct personalities.  Our daughter is a junior at Colorado State University and enjoys being a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and interacting with friends .  She was diagnosed with dyslexia as a 4th grader and inspired me to learn more about the disability and become an interventionist.  I continue to tutor students with dyslexia during our summer breaks. Our son is an 11th grader at TRHS.  He has a single passion for video games and programming and works at Columbine Country Club.  He was identified as gifted and talented as a 4th grader.  He motivated me to continue my education and learn more about gifted and talented.  My children have been the guiding force in the direction of my teaching career.

When I am not parenting, working, or managing a household, I love to hike or mountain bike the beautiful trails of  Colorado with my family.  I also love to scrapbook and quilt.  A favorite book series I have now read four or five times (a great summer read) is the All Souls Trilogy by Debrorah Harkness.    

I look forward to partnering with you in meeting the needs of your gifted learner.  As a parent of one, I understand the highs and lows that come with parenting a gifted child.  We are in this together!

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records by email to [email protected].
